Beyond the imbalance of agitation – Pitta dosha – and directly linked with it, is the harmonic intensity of power – Rajas guna, with its movement, force and flow (Air-Fire-Water).

Beyond the imbalance of dissociation – Vatta dosha – and directly linked with it, is the harmonic luminosity of awareness – Sattva guna, with its radiance, movement and stillness (Fire-Air-Ether).

Beyond the imbalance of dullness – Kapha dosha – and directly linked with it, is the harmonic density of precise and peaceful physicality – Tamas guna,  with its warmth, softness and solidity (Fire-Water-Earth).

While doing, feeling and being in our asana practice of conscious postures and positions, we learn to relax downwards into Tamas – Density, relax upwards into Sattva – Luminosity, and to concentrate inwardly/outwardly into Rajas – Intensity.

As we bring our conscious will and receptive sensitivity to each of the Three Gunas while doing our asanas, we gain a direct and spontaneous knowledge in our bodies that discerns and chooses between the natural imbalances of dullness, agitation and dissociation, and the radiant, whole and free integration of Density, Intensity and Luminosity – our Substance, Energy and Consciousness.
